diabetes( is my spelling correct?)?

my grandma has a diabetes. And i heard people saying that they shouldn't consume too much sugar or any sugar-contained food like rice, sweet, chocolate etc. Is fruit good for them?cos most of the fruits are sweet like peach. can they eat fruit?

Hey, now!!! don't be the diabetes police!!! I am sure your grandma has a food plan and she is following it!!!

Think of me as your grandma!! I don't eat much breads, no cereals, very few potatoes, carrots, corn, peas or lentils. I never have rices either!! They all shoot the moon with my glucose levels. I only eat apples, sliced thin and half of one at a time!! Never bananas, rarely peaches and other soft sweet fruits. I don't have many milk products such as a glass of milk, yogurt, cottage cheese because they shoot my glucose up also.

But I do have a real candy bar about once a week!!! or a piece of chocolate cake!! this is for sanity!!! My doctor said to never crave a food!! Much better to eat just a little bit of it once in a while than to crave and then eat the whole cake at one sitting! (and I could!!)

I also occasionally have a real coke!! Usually when my glucose is really low! I sometimes put sugar in my tea as well!!

No foods are forbidden to diabetics!! We must just learn which foods do what to our blood sugar levels and decide how much of them we really want to have!!

I am sure your Grandma is about my age!! I am NOT senile!! I can manage my meds and my food and go about my daily desires!!

Honey, don't worry about your grandma, she can live to be 100 if she watches her food, takes her meds, and goes for long walks!!

Peace and serenity reigns in tightly controlled glucose readings!!!

that all depends on whether she it type 1 or 2. as a type 1 diabetic, you can eat anything you want as long as you compensate with insulin (as the normal human body would do). you should just keep track of your blood sugars to make sure you've taken enough insulin. for type 2, diet helps control the diabetes, so taking in less sugar/ carbs would definitely help. if your grandma is on medication it would be ok for her to have a few carbs, but that would be best decided between her, her doctor and her dietitian.

They aren't supposed to have much sugar intake, but a little is okay. If she is a type 1 diabetic, then she can control her sugar/carb intake with insulin. Type 2's need to take a pill. I don't really know much about Type 2's, but I myself am a Type 1. Diabetics can have fruits and sweets, but we can only eat them in portions.
