You will need to be a Dietitian in order to be certified to be able to work as a Diabetes educator. To become a Dietitian, you will need to get a degree in nutrition/dietetics from an American Dietetic Association accredited University. Currently a Bachelors degree is all that is required with an approved Internship. Once you have completed that the trick is to gain employment at a Diabetes clinic. After a certain number of hours working as a Diabetes educator, you can become certified in that area. Pay is dependent upon location and can range from mid 30,000 up to 70,000 or so, depending upon several circumstances and again location. Phamacists or other practitioners can also become Diabetes educators in some circumstances. Email me if you have any questions and I can try to help you if you would like.
