i have an appointment with a diabetes nutritionist today. what should i expect?

i just found out i have type 2 diabeties and i have to see a nutritionist today. what should i expect them to do? what kinds of questions should i be asking?

they will most likely try and get you on a set diet to keep your sugars under control. they should most likely give you advice, and the "do's and dont's" of things. You should probably ask whats the best things to eat, the most things to stay away from, and how many times should you be checking your sugars. oh aslo ask them to give you a carb book, that has a lists of foods and their carbs - along with resturant's foods. those are helpful trust me

they will be there to help you make decisions on good things to eat.

Type 2 diabetics are able to control their blood sugar with diet making it much easier on your body.
Shes going to tell you the good things to eat, the things you should stop eating and only have once in a while.
She's also going to tell you how much and how often you should be eating.

Only thing at the top of my head is make sure you talk to her about your favorite foods. See when you should eat them.. if they are ok for you.

What you can expect is a lot of education. The main purpose of the Diabetes educator is to make sure that you understand what to expect, how you can best manage your Diabetes, and how you should be eating. Understand that in the beginning it seems like a lot of information, do your “best” to follow what you are told, put into practice what you are taught, and write down questions as they come up. Know that you are not expected to become an expert overnight. Baby steps in the right direction will better help you get your diabetes under better control. As you follow the advice given, you can greatly improve your life by better controlling your diabetes. Good Luck
