Does having gestational diabetes mean you are diabetic period even after birth??

My wife went to a kidney specialist today and we were shocked at what we were told. The doctor told us that my wife was a diabetic, period, and that it doesn't matter if she just had it at child birth. Our children are 12 and 14 and she goes to the doctor regularly and was NEVER told this throught out the years.

Do we see another doctor?? She was referred to this specialist because of a small bump on her adrenal gland on her left kidney.

That desn't mean she will always be a diabetic usually the problem resolves it's self after delivery however that does put her at higher risk later on in life to develop the full blown disease but doesn't mean she will. Don'y borrow trouble enjoy the moment.
