Why Was I Charged $4,000 for A 2hr Diabetes Related Visit?

I'm A 16yrold Diabetic From Washington State
And Last Summer I Was Visting Family In Cali
I Had Ran Out Of Insulin And Had Gotten Sick With HighBlood Sugar So I Went To The ER
Staff Seemed Kinda Sketchy
They Gave Me Fluids Through An IV, Prescribed insulin And Left Me In A Rm. For About 2hrs A Little Annoyed I stayed Polite.
Staff Then Asked For Insurance Info
I Explained I Have SSI In Washington State

Yet When I Went Home To Washington A $4,000 Bill Was Awaiting Me And With My Name On it Though I'm Underaged
Since Then Collection Agencies have Sent Me Letters

Was I Over Charged? Is There Anything I can Do? And Will This Ruin My Credit?
