How badly does mild diabetes effect cognitive and memory problems?

I've read the first two answers. I was wondering how long or often at slightly elevated or low levels, not coma level, there is damage.

Also, when your body is used to being high and then you feel worse a normal good levels, is this also effecting the brain?

My guess would be that over time there might be mild effects, especially if you're constantly low. When your low, the lack of sugar getting to your brain to the point where it's impossible to think, I've been there, it's a crappy feeling and I imagine that if you're constantly like that, its going to do something to your head.
