Could a weight gaining supplement or protein shake make you develop diabetes?

I was asking because weight gainers have lots of calories and cholesterol.

Don't want to say that it's never happened, because it might have. But in 27 years in the health industry, I've never heard or read of any cases.
I COULD see it happening if someone took the high carb weight gainers and did no exercises. The carbs would be turned to sugar and insulin levels would rise. If this became a steady issue for the body, perhaps it could lead to diabetes.
But again, it's almost as if the person would have to TRY and get it.
