i've just found out that i might have diabetes please help.?

I just come from my doctors as I have been having symptoms of diabetes being very thirsty and urinating alot, I had gestational diabetes when Iwas pregnant but it went away. But now its been 9 months since I had my son and the nurse checked my suger levels and it read 24.4 I know this is high but I have hardly eaten anything today and I have to go to the hospital tomorrow for a blood test I don't know what category I am type 1 or 2 but the nurse said with that reading it is probably type 1. I'm really scared as that means i'll have it for the rest of my life it wasn't so bad when I was pregnant as I knew it would go away. But now it won't and I eat healthly all the time, and I'm not over weight in fact I've lost weight i'm now 9 stone. Can you lead a normal life with this without worrying what you can and can't eat please help need advice!!! thankyou.
