Do you think it's odd my brother and his wife DONT want to have kids

because they're afraid it'll get diabetes My Mother has Type II Diabetes (the kind you get from being overweight) and my brother's wife has Type I Diabetes (the kind you're born with).

As a result they have decided they don't want to have any children because they're like, "The risk is too huge they'll have diabetes."

Now while I personally have not suffered from either type of diabetes, I'm wondering if the disease is really that bad that you wouldn't want to risk a child having it or if it's a cop out.

I would be willing to take the risk to have both of my kids.

No, it is not odd. Diabetes is a risky disease to deal with while pregnant. Since both Type I and II are genetic, I would be scared too.

they could be covering up other reasons as well, but it is not anyone's place to judge whether they want children or not. If they do no, that is their choice.

the child they would have would only have maybe a 50% chance of getting the type one because of your bros wife type 2 isnt genetic really since its because of being over weight...my sister in law has type 1 has a pancrease meter thing and takes insulin on occation..and they had 2 boys and neither of the boys have it...i think its just an excuse not to have a child...

The only way they would know for sure is to see a geneticist. Type 2 diabetes should have any impact providing they feed the child nutritional food. However the father of the children may have some impact but nothing too much. My neighbour has diabetes type 1, and 3 kids who are all fine. It may be a copeout, it may a real fear, but they will not know for sure until they see a geneticist.
