Does anyone take Byetta for their diabetes & if so, what kind of results are you...

...getting? My numbers had been out of control lately even though I try to walk daily & also play tennis. My new MD (an endocrynologist) took me off the old meds and has put me on Byetta 2x a day & metformin at night. Even though my sugar is near normal at bedtime, my readings are still high when I awaken. That was true before these new meds as well. Experience anyone?

If your doctor does not do whatever it takes to get your blood sugar lower, get another doctor and do it quickly. The life you lengthen will be your own. Byetta has never been a big helper in lowering my blood sugar but it does help with my hunger. It is so much easier to control and worth the $ in my opinion. You are supposed to take metformin with it because they act together. You can go online to www.byetta.com and get a phone number and they will gladly answer any questions and even send you a nifty little carrying case for free. You will also find that some people, including me, have very high blood sugars in the am. One I had to find out just what triggers my blood sugar at night and eat the right amount. That means not to little and not too much and you are the one that will have to do that. If you are on byetta, they have a consultant that gives talkes about diabetes and about byetta use at different doctor's offices for free. Call them and get included. It's very informational. Your liver can make sugar during the night--as mine does and I have the same problem. I had to eat the right amount and take the right amount of meds so that I didn't get out of control during the night. You will have to do the same thing. I have to go but lots of luck. You are the one responsible for your health. Don't rely on anyone to take care of you. Learn everything you can and don't be afraid to challenge your doctor or at least ask questions. Don't be afraid to get a second opinion but if you are out of control at any time with no way to control it, then get another doctor that will work with you until you are in control and test your blood sugar often.
