Diabetic diet for women with PCOS?

I have PCOS, have been TTC #1 for 17 months, I'm overweight (5'2 and about 250lbs) and always have been, and although I'm not pre-diabteic, my dad's mother and oldest brother are diabetic. I've heard a diabetic diet can help women with PCOS. I don't eat candy or sweets, I do eat bread (occasionally), I try to eat at least one fruit a day (not fruit juice), I do drink diet soda. I'm wondering if anyone good give me some advice (about what I should eat) , or some good websites.

You need to follow a simple balanced diet, that is low in fat, low sugar and high fibre. Always opt for wholemeals and wholegrains. When having potatoes, the portion should be no bigger than your clenched fist. Try and eat wholemeal bread, brownpasta and rice. Obviously, you should be eating lots of fruit and veg...the veg should be the largest component on your plate. Try also using a smaller dinner plate. Drink 2-3 litres of water a day...skip the soda's.

It would be sensible of you to do this as diabetes runs in your family and as im sure you know, this combined with you being overweight are factors in acquiring diabetes. Furthermore, being overweight affects fertility.

Good luck !
