my bf is extreme dieting... what can i do to stop him?

My bf, is 34 and has decided he is fat, so he is extreme dieting. he is taking about 900 calories a day! He is over weight, but I am rather worried at the way he has tackled his weight issue, he has lost i think-1st 9lbs in 3 weeks. Just now on the phone he told me he has lost 2lb in 24 hours!! Much that we all would love to lose weight and keep it off that quick, i am worried about the long term effects..I have told him he is worrying about him, but he just said ' well i am going out tonight so i will make it up on my night out' i would love and hints of how i can show him that a 900calorie diet is bad

well show him some documentary and same vid. about dieting abusing and its affects
and tell him how u really fell and how much you care for him
