| RESEARCH is the most important thing you can do at this stage!! I can highly recommend Dr Tom Lonsdale's books Raw Meaty Bones and Work Wonders. The feeding link below is from his website. My pets (dog and cats) are fed a diet of raw meat, edible bones and offal and are all fit and healthy with sparkly teeth and glossy coats. Their ages range from over 15 years to 18 months. We feed "frankenprey" which means that we try to provide a wide variety of meats in the ratio of 70-80% raw meat, 10-15% edible bones and 10-15% offal (including liver). This is workied out over a week or two so is not difficult at all. The general guide is to feed 2-3% of expected adult body weight per day. Our 16.5 kg girl gets about 450 grams per day. Raw feeding is much easier than people will try to tell you - no need to grind, puree or steam vegetables. No need for them at all actually as contrary to the current myth wild dogs and wolves DO NOT eat the stomach or intestinal contents of their prey - read the attached information. Just make friends with your local butcher. By feeding ground patties and mush your dog will miss out on the important teeth and gum cleaning benefits of raw meaty bones. |

| It's very easy- raw meat and edible bones! :-) There are 2 ways to go about this. The preferable way is to literally give your dogs portions of meaty bony carcass (think chicken wings/thighs with the bone and skin, chicken backs, beef/pork riblets, oxtail, whole fish, etc). The second way (acceptable, but considered less beneficial) is "grinding" or BARF feeding. Basically, you take meat, bones or bone meal, organ meat, veggies if you so choose, bone meal/calcium powder, and make raw doggy meatloaf, feeding it ground and mixed into mush rather than in whole form. Either way is much better than dry dog kibble.
