heart disease.?

my father has suffered with heart disease for about 18yrs now and in that time he has had 2 major heart attacks, he suffers also with angina he takes a load of pills which i dont know the name of,recently he was very ill with the flu and went to the doctors who have reffered him back to the hospital for tests he has had blood taken every week and has one today when he has fasted for 12 hrs what could this be for?he never tells us anything and when we ask he just brushes over the subject he lives alone and is 63, we have just recently found out that he turned down procedure a couple of years ago where they clean out out your arteries (not sure what its called)he lives a rather unhealthy lifestyle he smokes alot and drinks everyday,I live over 200 miles away so i cant be with him as much as i would like too but my sister is there everyday. last time i seen him he had a strange complexion almost grey and this is when he was feeling ok, could anyone advise me please.or give me a point in the right direction for some support, thanks. im just feeling lost and no matter how he decides to lead his life he is my dad and i love him ver much.

You should sit him down with your sister and talk to him. Tell him how much you care and that you want him to be healthy and live a long life. He needs support, and sounds to me, especially if he lives alone, he's not got much to live for. Try to help him get involved in something he's interested in (other than drinking). does he have any friends? Also, I would talk to the doctor for advice, maybe they can fill in the blanks you seem to be a little confused about the medical procedures. Good luck.

If he had to fast before this test, it was probably for one or both of two things; cholesterol and triglyceride levels and/or blood glucose.Best of luck persuading him to eat more healthily and smoke less!
