what is the average pay for artists working on a video game?

READ: i am really into game design and maybe looking at it as a side-job/project or career. but, for now i just want to do it as a hobby, as i am still young. i have all these massive, creative, and interesting ideas in my head and just want to let them out onto microsoft word. but i lack the artistic skill. so i know how to get in touch with some artists on a reputable art form i belong to but, dont know what kind of pay to offer them. because their way to busy with actual jobs to not get payed for it. and i am willing to pay them because i know they work hard. so, i was just wondering what the average pay for an artist (drawing/illustration) would be...

Do you know the difference between an artist and the rest of us? Everybody has ideas, but only an artist records them.Rest assured, you don't have the money to hire a contract video game artist. Most VG artists work for software developers and receive a salary. If you are really committed to the idea of being a VG artist or writer, take a class in programming and design so you can learn to get your own work out of your head and into your computer. Otherwise you need to find another outlet for your creativity.
