Never done drawings, art homework or almost anything artsy all my life till now.. How do you suggest I start? I know, by picking up a paper, and pencil, etc.. and draw. But what next? How do I improve? What sort of things/methods do you use?Or do you have any tips on drawing, illustrations, shading, or any form or art you do that you'd like to share?I'm interested in scrap booking, journals, collages, photography and so much more, but everytime I try, it just never looks as good. I know I've only started, so I really hope to get some tips from here because there's only so much we can learn alone, on our own. Thanks! (:

Never done drawings, art homework or almost anything artsy all my life till now.. How do you suggest I start? Art inspiration does not come just over night. i myself have been working in the new arts all my life or new media. and found my nieche in Film just recently. So if you are starting this late then i suggest that you just constantly practice and practice until you become well at it there is no guess work in it just hard work and maybe enroll in some weekend art classes at the local college or something like that you never know until you get there right. keep trying and you will get there eventually.Good luck.

Never done drawings, art homework or almost anything artsy all my life till now.. How do you suggest I start? Welcome to the party we call art. Please leave your left brain at the door and come on in!Ok, you already sound like your getting frustrated. Don't!!!!! You sound like you want to rush the learning process but you can't, it will take a long time. Please don't take this the wrong way I'm not giving you a hard time. But if your already getting a bit on edge you won't be ale to do crap. Now, you're asking about way too many forms of art in one shot. My advice is learn to draw before you try anything else. You gotta crawl before you can walk right? And walk before you can run. same thing with art. With drawing you can learn composition skills, perspective, shading, and everything else you could need for other forms of art..IT WILL NOT HAPPEN OVER NIGHT!!!!! Maybe you'll pick up on things fast maybe you won't. The key is not to get overly frustrated. It will get frustarting at times but you can get through it. If you have to walk away for a bit and come back to it. How do you begin? Well that depends what kind of person you are. Are you the dive right in or the research then do type. If you're the dive in type just go for it. It doesn't matter at this stage how well you do the main thing is to get comfy with the idea. Now after you do a few things research the web, go to the library and get books, ask around about classes whatever you feel the need to do. The reason why I'm saying draw some things first is as you research what you're doing compare what you read to what you did. You will notice all the things you want to do but can't and you can then see where you need to improve as well as gain understanding on how to do different things. Never throw away your old drawings either. Use them as a guage for improvement. It will take work and dedication if you really want to get good. A lot of it! But to be honest it's worth every second. Start with some basic line drawings then start adding detail. Baby steps remember. When you get to a point that you think you can do shading start off with something small. and see how well you do. The biggest problem people have with shading is they can't get the gradations the way they want. There is something you can do and you can do it while you're on the phone, watching tv, whatever is to have a sheet of paper and just scribble from dark to light. do it over and over and over. What this will do is get you used to making gradations and gain control over them. It sounds simple but look at what you do and you'll see where there are spots that don't flow. At first I guarantee they'll be there. you just have to work out the bugs. Remember, hard touch through to light touch.I can't tell you what books to get because I haven't needed them for a long time. However, you want to get books on the basics. Don't get books that show you how to draw specific things. You need basic skills books, (or tutorials, videos, whatever.) If you learn the basics and do well at them you will be able to do anything. Now here's the toughest thing you need to do. Stop seeing with your brain and see with your eyes. Your brain will tell you how things look but it's usually wrong. Take a face, (I've used this as an example before.) Begginers usually draw almond shaped eyes, crooked noses. outline the lips and have an oval head. Why, because your brain breaks down complex forms into simple easily recognizable shapes. when you try to draw your brain lets those images out instead of what's really there. Then you get ticked off because it's not coming out right. You really have to see what's there and retrain your brain. For now that's about as far as you need to go. Take what others and myself say and do what you will with it. It's a start and where you take it is up to you. Just remember that to much info can be a bad thing as well. So sort through our words and pick out only what you feel you need at this time. If you really want to be good or at least decent you've already taken the first step. You're crawling, now you need to learn how to walk. Good luck!!!!!! And let the fun begin!

Never done drawings, art homework or almost anything artsy all my life till now.. How do you suggest I start? To learn any skill I believe you first have to clear your mind of any kind of pre-conceived ideas you may have about the subject. Go in completely blank, like a piece of paper with nothing on it.Get some paper and a soft drawing pencil from an art store for quick sketches and spend a week drawing squares and cubes of all kinds. Nothing else, remember your mind is blank. Just squares, cubes and more squares and more cubes for a week till your sick of them. Then do the same thing with circles and spheres. Then rectangles. Then triangles and pyramids. Then cylinders. Don't skip steps and start combining or trying to figure out what is happening, just draw each weekly. Then look at a picture of the interior of a house. As you look around at the objects you will notice, they are really just circles, squares, rectangles, spheres, etc. Everything is based on these primitives or some combination of them. Then your an artist. An artist has a different view of life than most people. They see life in it's basic form.
