Peter Marshall Booker has a spectacular aura about
Geology - what's older the parrot formation or cloyd formation?

What I Got So Far

-youngest-
Price Formation - 800' - siltstone (contains plant material)
Merrimac Formation - 4' - coal
Parrot - 400' - Arkose Sandstone
Cloyd Formation - 50' - conglomerate
Chemung - 3000' - slitstone (crinoid stems) upper Devonian
-oldest-
the top four i know are mississipian, but does my arrangement of formations make sense? Thank You
No this isn't the actual order. (No law of Superposition!) This is simply my guess. I was wondering if anyone knew definatively about the ages of the parrot and cloyd formations. They're both lower mississippian, but which logically comes first.

Well, if this is an undisturbed sequence, according to the law of superposition, Cloyd is older than Parrot because it is underneath.

I am trusting you have the Mississippian rocks correct because thicknesses and rock types alone give no indications of age.

***Then you need to dig into the literature and see which is older. No one can tell from the information you have given especially if you cannot apply superposition.
