| For the askers here in Earth Science and Geology!? This question applies to the askers that are interested in Earth Sciences, not for those who just want their homework done because they hate it. I already know what your answer will be.
I have noticed that there are a lot of people here who ask some interesting questions that only somebody who is really interested in this field would ask. What exactly inspired you in Geology, Volcanology, Seismology, Mountains etc? What exactly do you see in this type of science? Let me give you an example.
I loved rocks and mountains as long as I could remember, and no not just 5 minutes ago lol. Try around 5 years old or 4 even.
Like most girls I liked things that sparkled like gems and crystals especially the natural rocks not so much the faceted gems. And believe it or not, I was never really into volcanoes until my first Earth Science class. Call me old but I took this class when Dante's Peak first came out. continued in additional details....
Unfortunately, my teacher at the time was more into biology and only a little mineralology, so when it came to learning about Plate Tectonics, we did a lot of reading on our own some note taking and Dante's Peak was our teacher lol. we had to be able to tell the difference between what was real and hollywood. But something about that movie amazed me. Yeah it was just a movie but, I also use to under-estimate the danger and power of a volcanic eruption. There are some parts of that movie that shows the full effect of an eruption. I was facinated! after that, I wound up becoming the teachers pet and acing every geological exam after that. And every book I could get my hands on that pertained to volcanoes or plate tectonics I had to read it. And ever since, I have been working, slowly but surly, in eventually getting my degree and becoming a Geologist or Volcanologist. I always loved rocks and mountains, but since Highschool, grew a new passion for plate tectonics.
continue...
Now I want to know. What is your interest, and what triggered it?
ps. You do not have to be a Geologist or any other kind of scientist to answer this question. I will not pick a best answerer, unless there is only one or all of the other answers are not serious. ANYBODY with a passion for Earth Science is welcome. |
