Why are Geography and Earth Sciences & Geology two different categories?

Surely, Earth Sciences are part of Geography, and so is Geology.

Geography includes things like city populations, migratory trends, cartography, climate studies, the water cycle and other things that are not covered by geology or earth sciences. Geology and earth sciences include a lot of chemistry and geophysical techniques not covered in geography.

Earth Sciences and Geology is mainly the study of rock formations, water cycles, climate etc, things natural to the earth.Geography on the other hand, is mainly the study of the land and its relation to human existence.Comparison, a geologist would look at a volcano and say, that erupted and created these islands and studies the rocks that it created. A Geographer might say, that volcano erupted and disrupted human life, then made the land fertile for farming and studies how civilization lived around and with the volcano. The Earth Scientist looks at a river and sees the life forms that are created, the fish and the microscopic organisms and how it effects the climate. The Geographer looks to see how it effects people, does it bring water to a city, does it cut the city in half.

dont ever ever evr suggest that earth science is a part of geography!Earth science is different, we (im a geologist) deal with a lot of complex earth process, the internal processes and thier effect on the surface. Geography is a very broad subject working on Human influences (human geography) and then surface works (physical geography)Geography, especially human works are normally classified as an "art" in universities, by the pure definition, geology and earth sciences are a science. a science can never be part of, even a slight, art catagoryPlus Geographers and Earth scientists dont like each other, mainly because Earth scientists are superior and geographers dont like that fact.another point is Earth scientists can make and read maps, Geographers cant (never trust a geographer for directions, im not being funny here, its true)

Geography has a socio-political aspect (capital cities, definition of borders between countries, e.t.c).Earth Sciences and Geology are purely scientific in nature (rock formation and composition, how earthquakes and volcanos work, internal structure of the Earth, e.t.c)I have always found it odd that Earth Science comes under the umbrella of Geography in many Schools, and is not lumped in with other science subjects - Physics, Chemistry, Biology - as it should be.
