Geologists: what geology classes that you took are the most useful in your job?

Also, which classes do you use the least?

Since I'm a hydrogeologist I would say:

1. Basic geology.
2. Hydrogeology
3. All my math classes
4. FORTRAN
5. Sedimentary petrology and stratigraphy
6. Structures
7. Environmental/engineering geology (my favorite!)

The ones I use least are probably ig and met pet...but the info in there for classifying the rock and knowing their material properties was useful. I never looked down a petrographic microscope outside of school, but that class was necessary to take my petrology classes.

I Love Yahoo! has a spectacular aura about
I think all geology classes are important, but the most important ones are:
- PHYSICAL GEOLOGY
- STRUCTURAL GEOLOGY
- MINERALOGY
- PETROLOGY
- SEDIMENTOLOGY & STRATIGRAPHY
- PALEONTOLOGY
- GEOPHYSICS
- FIELD GEOLOGY
Good luck!

Basic first year Geo. It gives you a good idea on where you want to go with your studies. I still use the skills I learnt in 1st year in the field even today.
The most un-usefull class for my type of work was archaeology

I have been in the environmental consulting ffield for 20 years, so most of my "useful" classes were hydr, geomorph, and geochem.

The things I use the least are paleo, igneous pet, and structural.

If I had to do it all over again, I would have taken more business classes as electives, things like basic accounting, some business law, marketing, etc. Most of that info I have had to pick up on the fly, but at this stage of my career and onwards, those are the skills most valuable to my employer.
