Almost all of those things will be used either during your time at school or thereafter; however I would hold off on purchasing the whole kit. Normally a compass will be provided on field trips and during field camp by the respective university and this typically will be the most expensive item unless you have to buy some rapidiograph pens. The clip board is extremely useful and probably the best investment (I personally have the fold open book style one that I purchased for about $30 ten years ago). The field book will be required and can normally be picked up for about $10 bucks. The hand lens will be used in the field and in lab for obvious reasons and will also be required. The remainder of the items might be necessary at some point but it would probably be more practical to see what your respective professors require before buying the whole pack.
