HAWK has a spectacular aura about
4X4 cars economics?

I have a 4x4 nissan mistral 2.7tdi auto and just wondered if any one knows if fuel consumption is more or less when it is in 4 wheel drive mode ? as opposed to 2 wheel drive on road ?
as it is a vehicle for family use and work that is my choice i don't think that i can carry tools and materials or a large family on a bicycle muppet
