economics or engineering?

what should i major in? both seem really interesting because they combine math with solving problems and applying it to real life situations. in your opinion, which is more lucrative in the job market? which would be more beneficial (assuming i want to get an MBA after)?
Bill, you've got it totally wrong...ANYONE can get an MBA with any undergraduate degree!

Comes down to what you want you enjoy. But if you really love economics because of the math/physics you are likely better off in the math/ physics department with a minor in economics. Lots of advanced econ can come down to real analysis and topology which you need a very strong math background to do. Engineering can also set you up to solve some interesting problems in finance/econ too. Accrual science might be a good fit for you as well. Also, MBA’s are made for engineers who want to move into management and they are usually paid for by the company. Master’s in management science/economics are more focused and would be better for someone going straight into grad studies in business.

You are correct about MBA's

What I would do is a degree in math which will qualify you to do a economic/finance Masters or to go into one of those 3-2 engineering degrees to become and engineer or maybe direct entry in a Masters of engineering - although I have heard some professional accreditation issues can occur if you don't do a bachelors in engineering first.

Hare is an example of such a program:

If you decide engineering is not for you do a masters in economics/finance rather than an MBA because the better ones usually require job experience.

Thanks
Bill
