Riddle: Barber Economics?

The a small town has only one barber and that barber has been cutting hair for over 35 years. The barber is so famous that customers from all around the globe come to him to get their haircut. In an interview on the radio station the barber said he would rather give two foreigners haircuts than to give a haircut to one person from the US. Explain why the barber would say this.
