Essex or Surrey for Economics BSc??

Essex has a good academic reputation for social sciences but is this reflected in the real world of employment... and do misconceptions due to the 'Essex's reputation' precede it?
Surrey has very good graduate prospects compared to Essex, is this due to their work placement policies or course content? Please help!

If you can't make up your mind the Times ranking has Essex at the 36th best UK uni. and Surrey the 40th.
