| Economics using supply/demand/prices to explain headlines?
Explain the economic reasoning behind the following newspaper headlines, in terms of Supply and Demand and prices: a)“Weather Slows Fishing: Seafood Prices Double” b)“Sugar: Crisis of Plenty” c)“Minimum Wage Costs Jobs” (think about artificial pricing (price supports and ceilings) vs. the equilibrium of supply and demand. d)“Bountiful Wheat Crop is Hurting Growers” |

|
a) There is a shift of the supply curve to the left. The supply of the fish decreases because of a factor other than price b) There is a surplus of sugar represented by the shift of the supply curve to the right. There is a greater supply of sugar than there is a demand for sugar. c) There is a surplus of workers. Therefore the supply of workers is greater than the demand for workers. d)There is a surplus of wheat. The supply or wheat is greater than the demand for wheat. |
