WHY doesn't supply-side/trickle-down economics work?

We know it doesn't. But why not? On paper it sounds like a good argument (Tax cuts for the wealthy leads to more money for them to spend. Rich people with more money means that they are spending more of it b/c they didn't have to spend it on taxes. If rich people are spending more money then they are spreading wealth around and creating jobs.)

But why doesn't that actually work. It seems like it would.
