I'm in a predicament...what do you think I should do--an MBA or a Masters in

Economics? I will be receiving a Bachelors degree in Math and Quantitative Economics...I would like to get my PhD, but there is a chance I will have to wait until later (I'm 28 and my wife and I want to start a family). If I decide to settle for a Masters degree in Economics for now would it be as efficient as an MBA? That is, which would best provide for a family--and give me the option of a PhD later?

I think the MBA would definitely be the safest way to a great paying job that you can raise a family with. Get an MBA with a focus on Finance.

This is something that only your and your wife can decide. Just a few questions: Why the hurry to begin a family now? You both are young, and an ideal situation is to earn your degree/s before beginning a family. Not everyone has that opportunity. Families require much time and effort - hard to realize before one has a child. Also: Have you met with a career counselor at your college? These professionals are very helpful, and their services are free of charge. One more question: What do you plan to do with your terminal degree? With a Ph.D. you could apply to become an assistant professor in a university or community college. With an MBA there are limitless possibilities as well. It depends on what YOU want to do.

Best wishes.
