fastbob has a spectacular aura about
The economics of wave-power?? - do you mean wave generated power as in machines driven by the action of waves on the sea that generate electricity??
Assuming that you are referring to power generation then it's fairly straightfoward it's a natural and sustainable source of energy unlike power stations driven by one form or other of fossil fuel.
Coal, gas power stations require energy to be put into them to produce power in the form of gas or coal which not only are in finite supply, rapidly ruuning low if what the news tells us is true but which we have to expend much energy whether it's mining or from oil rigs out at sea to get to and stockpile.
As you can see it's taken a degree of energy and expense to aquire these products and then we burn them to generate electicity from a power station.Obviously the energy taken to produce electricity is not only that directly used bu the power plant but also that used to get the fuel to make it go - very energy unefficient.
Wave powered and likewise wind powered generators or solar generators give the promise of entirely 'free' and sustainable sources of energy.Clearly they won't be entirely free as there will be costs in citing and setting up the generation unit and it's running costs but the source of generation comes from natural energy constantly available and with no negative after effects.
Old forms of power generations coal, gas, oil or the newer nuclear forms of power station give off polluting products during operation. To generate power they burn fuel and it's this burning of whichever fuel it uses that gives off polluting gases as a by product so not only do they consume alot of energy to produce energy they also damage they're local enviroment in the process.
It is a fact that older forms of power station are a devil's bargain and they're only saving grace iis their large power output.
As yet the more eco-friendly sustainable forms cannot consistantly produce the type of power to rival the established generators on equal terms
