and credit crisis is...? leading us to disaster, are we really in such a dire situation or is this just hyped up?

Deep down it is just Wall Street taking back the money they let go of the last ten years.

Economic history has shown the failure of financial markets are very bad indicators for the near term future of the economy. Most economist of all political persuasions are a lot more worried about the credit crisis than are the politicians and the media.
