As a civil engineering student who's held some internships as well as offered jobs and looked for jobs, the salary ranges a lot. It depends on what type of field you go into specifically (construction, structural, environmental, etc.), what school you graduated from, and the area of the country (world). The highest starting salary I have seen for a B.S. in civil engineering was $78,000 and that was a company in the mid-west where everything is expanding. I attend Syracuse University and last years civil grads averaged about $44,000 (however, that DOES include students who go on to grad school and such so the actual number would be higher)

The average civil engineering salary reported by my school was approximately $46,000 nationwide. Of course, as stated previously, there is some variation, but that's what it boils down to. I was offered $62,000, and $45,000 in the same geographic location, but the average is a safe basis to build your conclusions.
