Should human beings be genetically engineered?

Once the technology is readily available to manipulate the genetic code should we take full advantage of the possibilities. This includes eliminating disease and birth defects and reducing propensities for violence. Beyond eliminating negative qualities there is also the potentional to enhance positive attributes that relate to intelligence and physical fitness. Should human beings go down this road?

Why bother..nature is the best...why do u wanna mess with it?
Human beings misuse their powers..excess of intelligence would be bad too.
