asking what my salary is!!!!!itz about etiquette....? this friend of mine keeps asking what my salary is.i told her "itz not nice to tell ur salary or ask others salary".instead of leaving it she keeps asking me if itz 20k,30k etc etc etc.she is like what is teh big deal about it and got pissed of with me.since i know her for 5 yrs should i make it up to her or should i just wait for her to talk to me...

I think it's rude to ask people what they make. If they volunteer it, its one thing but outright asking is nosy. Next time she asks ask her "why do you want to know?" that will put her on the spot. If its not a big deal then she shouldn't have to know. You don't need friends who treat you like that. If she's not talking to you because of that, find a new friend.

Maybe just reach out and say, "I hope that you're not offended at my reaction to your inquiry about my salary, but I've learned that it's best not to talk about that." I thought that was common knowledge personally: if someone offers the info of how much they make, it's cool. But I never, ever ask (even if I'm dying to know). It's definitely considered in poor taste to ask, and you did the right thing by not disclosing it. But if she's a longtime friend, you might want to be the one to reach out. Good luck!

You need not delvulge this information. It is in the best interest of your personal and business life to keep it your secret. If she was a true friend she would respect you and your discision not to ask what your salary is. And what's it too her anyway? Let her be mad! Stand your ground.

The next time she asks, simply tell her that is a personal question and that you will not discuss it. If she gets angry with you, too bad. It's none of her business. She is the only one making a big deal about it. If she won't back off, tell her that you don't think you should spend time together for awhile, since she can't seem to accept your right to privacy. You might want to ask her why she thinks she has the right to know personal details about your life, and why she feels that you have no right to privacy. She is very, very rude.
