Email Etiquette?

I'm a young person (19 years old).

When I email someone for a job interview and use their last name (Mr. Smith), and they reply and sign their email with their first name, how should I address them in a subsequent email? Should I use their first or last name?

I agree. Continue to use Mr. Smith. Until he tells you otherwise. It is just the respectful thing to do.

still call him Mr. Smith
think of it this way...
if you were emailing your teacher..
and she signed with her first name..
would you sill call her.. Ms. Johnson..
or would you call her....Beth..

I think if they sign the e-mail with just their first name that gives you the go ahead to use it, but if it's both first and last, I'd continue to use the more formal.

(and good luck )

***Last name... but lose the Emails!!! Write, type or fax!! Don't ask me why? I don't know? Just that our Personnel Manager at work, will not entertain two bad habits.... Emails, or dirty footwear, in an interview! She says that if they cannot be bothered to make the effort of sending a piece of paper, or clean their shoes.... they aren't interested!!! I don't understand the logic either... but when in Rome...... lol

ALWAYS use their last name unless they direct you to do otherwise. It's a sign of respect.

I would go with the first.
After all, they gave you their first name for a reason, right?

I would keep using the last name. Besides, they may be using a set "signature" that gets added to every email.

In formal language you never use only first name.
"Dear Sir/Madam/Miss Last name"
