No male-to-male eye contact while hooking it, of course (~no homo~), but I believe male-to-female or female-to-female is acceptable on either from of transportation. Airplane etiquette is probably the same, and I believe it is acceptable to ask the flight attendant to assist with your hooking needs (provided she is female).

Do you know I've never ridden on a train or a bus. Well - except the school bus of course. I did ride on the Marta train when we first got it but that was a hundred years ago and I looked everybody right in the eye and smiled whilst touching myself. ?
