How to be respectful in China. etiquette?

I am going to Nanjing this summer to study business and Manderin. And I was wonder what customs and eitiquette should i know to be as respectful as possible. Also what should I not do, that would seem disrespectful without me knowing it.

Also these are very stupid questions but I would like to know.

In Japan they always take off their shoes when ever they go inside, and do they do the same in China?

Also do chinese sleep with the bed on the floor or on a bed frame?

My chinese teaher also said that their is no toilet paper in public bathrooms, is this true?

I know the Chinese have a long history of tradition and culture and the last thing I wanna do is disrespect the Chinese in any way shape or form.

First of all, its spelled Mandarin. Shoes aren't important in China. It's just like where you live: some people keep them on, some take them off, usually the former because most floors are tiled. Beds are just like the one you have in your bedroom: on a frame. No, there is no toilet paper in Chinese bathrooms, always carry a small packet of tissues around with you (they're easily available at most shops). With chopsticks, never point at someone with them, stick them in anything (looks like a funeral custom), and only take what you are willing to eat, never put anything back in the main dish. When giving and receiving money (in shops), use both thumbs and index fingers to hold it. It's very respectful and this is how you will be given money. There's no need to tip - they'll run down the street after you to give back the money. I'm sure there's more but I can't think of anything. Wikitravel has a great section on it under 'respect': http://wikitravel.org/en/China

Just be courtesy and if a friend invite you to their/other house; ask them if you need to take off your shoes.

Bed frame.

True but you have buy the toilet paper at the window. And public toilets are squat which may be a hassle for a Westerner. But apartments and hotels are are Western toilets and have toilet paper.
