Car alarms / house alarms: Are they bad etiquette?

They are really loud, go off for hours late at night for no reason, and the owners can't even be bothered to turn them off.

Yes, they are very disturbing late at night.

But I'm not sure if the owner is actually aware of it that his/her car alarm is sounding. He/she might be fast asleep.

Now, if my car alarm would sound in the middle of the night, how would I know it is mine? Unless I take the lift down 20 storeys and check if it is my car that is making the noise. But it could be 120 other car alarms ...

Well those alarms couldn't be loud enough if you don't mine me saying. After all, these are cars and properties that are being protected.

The time of efficiency of alarms is ten minutes - because it's the time robbers know they can do their job before any real threaten - unless they are shot by individuals - which is not the best solution -

Afterwards, alarms are just ear-brakers and as such, should stop after a while - if they don't,- mean that they are rubbish equipments of which the owner is responsible for troubles caused - so if you can identify the owner, adress the sheriff, and complain about it -

the worst.

i sleep days and work nights so i have a really hard time of it.

Detroit is to blame making their alarms so noisy just to activate. why not use flashing lights . why does it have to be a horn that goes of whenever you set it?

Yeah, if you're not gonna check and see whats up when they go off, why set them?? Where I live, you can be ticketed for letting them go off and not turning it off. Its my pet peeve too.
