Unsure about resume etiquette, When and what do you say when making a follow-up

phone call? I sent a resume in about a week or 2 ago for a position that I am really ambitious about. However, I did everything online and noticed that the position has been posted for quite some time, and while it took me a couple of weeks to update my resume and get it all together, I noticed the position was still posted on the site. I filled out the online application, sent my cover letter/resume through their website as requested with the application. So my question is, when do I follow up with a phone call? Do I ask for the HR department directly? And most importantly, how do I go about asking if they had yet to review my resume? What do I say?

What was the closing date on the application? Having worked in Personnel myself the applications are usually looked at the day after the closing date. I've taken many calls from applicants and it isn't unusual to ask whether you're being considered for the job. Best to phone HR direct, quoting the job reference, if there is one. Simply say your name and that you applied online. Ask whether your application has been successful and whether you can expect a letter. Not all companies will let you know unless you have been shortlisted. Good luck!!
