Is it right etiquette to request uneaten food, which you ordered in restaurant, to be packed and taken home?

I do, and I consider myself mannerlyIts food I paid for,and they cannot (by Health Laws) re-serve it.Its wasteful, not to take it home, I believe. Many in the world, would love to have it.It's common because they have containers just for this purpose.

You had to pay for it, so there was absolutely nothing wrong with taking it "to go."

Of course you have the full right to have them pack the food. You paid for it.

If the restaurant allows leftover food to be taken home, then etiquette be damned. I'm taking what I paid for. If they don't, then I have no choice but to leave it.

i see no problem asking for a doggie bag. just ask to carry it home. we do it all the time with leftovers.

We've come a long way from when if you could only eat half your steak you asked for a doggie bag and explained how much your terrier would enjoy the leftovers. Even the nice dining rooms I've been to in the past 5 years ask if you'd like you're leftovers packed up to take. I can't imagine them not asking about untouched meals. You shouldn't have had to ask, they should have offered.I can think of one or two restaurants that are such nice places I would feel uncomfortable taking a leftover home but they're around $100 a person and we don't often go there anyway
