What is proper etiquette in this situation?

I've been dating my boyfriend for about 5 months, and I am meeting his parents for the first time on Fathers day. Do I get his dad a card? My gut says no, but they ( his parents ), are treating us to a fancy meal and of coarse I want to impress. And I know my boyfriend is the one, so this will be my future father-in law one day!I'm probably over thinking it...what do you think?

No, I would say it is a bit premature. Shake his hand and tell him "Happy Fathers Day"

He's not your father, so only your boyfriend should get him a card. However, send his parents a nice thank you card immediately after seeing them, thanking them for their hospitality.

No, he's not your father, not even "in law." But DO say "happy father's day."

get your boyfriend so sign your name in his one, or shop for his fathers day present together. that way you don't go out on a limb by getting him a card/gift of your own, but he knows you had some input and that you're making an effort.

I am not sure. Depends on how serious you are with this guy maybe. Ask your boyfriend want he thinks. My first reaction was no, but then I thought maybe...

No, that's a bit overkill. Just tell him Happy Father's Day.

It is a sweet thought but this may come off as strange since he is not your father and you have only been dating his son for five months. I don't see anything wrong with telling him, "happy fathers day" but a card would be overboard and would make it look like you were trying to hard to impress them. Always follow your gut instincts they are usually right!

NO FATHER'S DAY CARD unless you want to imply that you are engaged and he is about to be your father. If you are going to a fine meal, do what any decent guest would do and bring a nice bottle of wine (or a bouquet of flowers if they don't drink)Don't say "Happy father's day" but if you wish to compliment him, say that you think he did a great job with raising his son, and you feel it is obvious that his son respects him a great deal. Keep the "you" out of it.
