Question about first date etiquette?

As a woman, is it bad etiquette to order a glass of wine on a first date if your date, who is paying for dinner, doesn't order a drink?

Yes. If he doesn't suggest a wine with dinner, don't order it. He might think you need the alcohol to get through the date with him, and he'll be so paranoid about it, it will be hard for him to have a relaxed conversation with you.

Nope, it's fine. He's driving, so he may be abstaining so he can get you home safe. I think it's rather poor manners to order the most expensive plate on the menu, but a glass of wine? No, it's okay, esp if you're really nervous.

Good question. On one hand, you want to follow your date's lead; on the other, you want to be yourself. I would probably have the wine, especially if it was with the meal, not as a cocktail.
