In a role playing game what is general etiquette practice regarding this?

The situation I am in happens to be that a character offended another character by accusing them of murder.

Is it a bit unreasonable for me to expect the parties in question to make it clear whether or not this character can make
ammends?

I've been going nuts for over a month worry if this character is going to be hurt, killed, or whatever, and I wish the player would give me some clue.
