Text Etiquette and Girl Advice?

I've been texting this girl I really like (personality wise) every couple of days/weeks starting up a little conversation for a while now and we usually text for several hours.Unfortunatly, however, it is always me starting the conversation, and keeping it going. Is this normal?
Context: Were friends, but never get together just the two of us, always with other people or a group; and two of her best friends like me. All I want is to be closer to her as a friend, nothing sexually.
She's a senior in Highschool and im a junior. How do I become better friends with her before she leaves for college without seeming to eager/desperate/pushy/whatever... And is her never texting me first a sign she doesnt like me? If so, do i give up on trying to be her friend?

Thanks

You should never give up unless there are clear (very clear) signs that this person definitely does not want to hang out. If you have been texting a ton, and keep texting for long periods of time, it's a good sign that she likes the way you think. If she didn't want to talk to you, either she would say outright, or she would make up tons of excusing to get offline instead of ringing up the text bill. It's possible that she doesn't want to chill (that may be why you keep pushing the convo ball) or it could just be that she's busy. If you could find something that you both enjoy, well, that's a great way to start and cement a friendship. Or, invite her to an open air concert or something. Go to a fair together. Try to keep it casual, nothing to date-ish, but do something that'll be fun. Just spend time together. even doing things in groups is good, because if you're friends with her friends, you're bound to hang out more. Hope this helped!
