smoking etiquette?

does it bother you when people smoke in public? Especially if they gather in front of entrances to stores and do it? I find it quite rude and harmful to other people. Those smokers are being inconsiderate to the health of others and poisoning people.
also, what's your take on the smoking ban?
we shouldn't have to breathe in second hand smoke that can cause cancer. also, people with asthma may have a difficult time in public if they had to breathe that in.
joel r, valid points. I do wonder though about how far that would go... would there be separate establishments for smokers and for nonsmokers?
ladylost, when did i say i was better than you? all im saying is that it's really annoying when people smoke near entrances where people will walk through. i never said i supported the ban and i never said that i disagreed with it either. one thing to think about though is that maybe people's rights to living without worrying about yet another cause of cancer from breathing in the air just might be more important than smoker's rights to smoke which has no reason for being. Emissions and all that, they are from cars and stuff and those actually have a beneficial purpose. What good does smoking do?

You're right, it is very annoying! But at least, they're NOT smoking in restaurants anymore (i.e. California).
Hopefully, more states will follow and everyone will be able to eat smoke-free!

I'm an ex-smoker, and I'm HAPPY to enjoy the benefit from the no-smoking laws here in California...even though, I still question whether or not the government should be able to make a law regarding where one can smoke.

Here is how I feel about smokers. I don't smoke I don't like to smell it, there are some places I that I think people should be aloud to smoke and that is in any stadium that was built off a tobacco tax, and any place there is a bar. Keep in mind I don't smoke. As far as them gathering in front of store entrances I don't like that either. Cleveland Clinic put on a smoking ban and built a special smokers box out side on Euclid Ave. every time I drive by I see smokers in the bus shelter smoking and not in the box, as well as smoking on the street next to patients who are sitting outside in wheelchairs with oxygen tanks and drip machines hooked up to them. I see hospital employees doing this as well as non-employees, I never see anyone using this smokers box, even in the dead of winter or if its raining!

Doesn't bother me. They're outside. I'm not a smoker though.

I think smoking bans are rubbish and unconstitutional.

Can you explain why a PRIVATE business owner should not be allowed to let people smoke in their establishment. That is absolutely unconstitutional. If one does not want to be exposed to the smoke that's their choice and they can choose not visit that establishment. But telling a privately owned business that they are not to allow smokers it just blatantly in conflict with the US Constitution.

I am a smoker, but I don't smoke in the presence of non smokers, I also will walk away from a bus stop or any area I am in if I see another person come along. I've never liked to be smoked around when I was eating, I've tired to respect non smokers, Since smoking is banned in most place , there is not many places left to go and unless you walk thru a cloud of smoke, give em a break. Your breathing the air that being polluted by all kind of things,do you think that's rude too and inconsiderate? gettttt real

Not when people smoke in public. But I think when people smoke right in front of doorways it is rude.

Its harmful, but not all that bad honestly. People are really over reacting to that kind of thing if they're complaining about smoke outdoors. I don't mean you specifically but the whole idea that its going to cause them permanent harm to walk past a puff of cigarette smoke outside occasionally. Its obvioiusly going to cause damage if you're indoors or in an enclosed space but you won't get any more damage from a whiff of smoke outdoors than you'd get when a bus or truck drives past. Its just more acceptable to complain about smokers I guess

The smoking ban is dictatorship, outright. This is doing to the smokers what you are accusing the smokers of...ignoring other peoples rights. What makes it okay for you to infringe on their rights and not vice-versa? What makes your rights any more important than theirs? You do *not* own the planet, therefore you have no right what people do outside. If someone is smoking and you choose to pass closely by them, then that is the decision/choice that YOU made. This is a big world...take a few extra steps away from them. After all...you're so health conscious. Wouldn't walking a little further be good for you? I tell you what...when you eliminate those poison producing factories that make the products that you use every day and those poison producing cars that you drive every day and stop poisoning me, I'll put down my little bitty "bad" ciggy. 'Kay?

Dictatorship is *never* a good thing, not in any way, shape or form and you are *not* better than me. Just different.
