Corsage etiquette? A lot of times on TV you'll see a boy picking up his date for the prom, and he'll bring a corsage, and he'll go to pin it on her, then everyone will realize that in order to do that, he needs to touch her boobs. And her parents are there, and they're upset, and everyone is uncomfortable. My question is: why didn't they anticipate this ahead of time? It seems inevitable. I don't understand why everyone is always surprised when it happens.

Personally, I always preferred the wrist corsages better anyway. It should not be directly on the boob - higher than that. Plus, guys typically are clumsy - I would prefer to do it myself or ask my mother for help. I agree that the awkward boob touching scenario is played up for tv humor,

You have three options. You hand the corsage to her mother, her mother pins the corsage on her daughter...or you give the corsage to the girl and she pins it on for herself. OR you get a wrist corsage that slips on the wrist with an elastic band.

Typical TV playing for comedic effect. In real life, most guys just shove the flowers at the girl, turn red and say, "Here." Although, frankly, most girls' evening dresses these days don't really lend themselves to pin-on corsages, because of the halter, strapless or spaghetti straps! My daughter received a pin-on for homecoming last year with a strapless dress, the guy was a little embarrassed, but she pinned it at her waist (the dress had a big satin tie) and it looked great. A quick rescue for the impossible corsage is to use a covered ponytail elastic or a white scrunchie -- work the elastic in between the flowers on the corsage, and then slip your wrist through it -- it's a quick fix!
