Is it possible to be so busy with work & family issues and not have time for a lover?

He says that he is busy at work since his company is in trouble- he is the general manager and his mother is also in some family trouble which he takes care of. So he calls me less and texts me much less than before.
I do believe him since I know him to be a real honest guy but sometimes I also think that maybe he wants to get rid of me and that is his way. I dont know I am confused.
I really want to know what guys think.
