xbox live family settings problems?

ok, i just bought xbox vision, and i wanted to go into a video chat. it said that communications are blocked with my friends profile. do im signed in on my account, i go to the dashboard and goto xbox live family settings, the sidebar slides out and tells me i have to sign in under the following accounts. only they are my friends accounts who have recovered there gamer tag on my xbox. What the heck!!?? it wont let me acess my xbox live family settings. it tells me i must sign in, but it gives me a choice between 4 profiles that arent even mine, but are my friends,(they recovered them on my xbox) what do i do? oh and i havent ever played around with family settings, so it should be on default.
