Adopt a third world family?

I am wondering if it is possible to adopt a family from third world country?

I live in Brisbane, Australia and I've recently purchased an 4 bedroom inner-city apartment. I'm single and find having such a large living space lonely, so I'm wondering if it is possible to adopt a less privileged family?

I came realise there are people out there in other countries suffering while I find myself earning more money than I can find a use for. I have thought about it for a while, and I think the best way to be to do some good in this world is to find a family who is less privileged than I am that could benefit from my help. I'm a 27 y.o. male, financially stable (technical director in my company, earning roughly $221k), and willing to pay for living expenditures, and support the family (help them find jobs, education for children).

Are there organisations out there that can contact? Has this been done before? My researched only found organisations that support families through donations.
