what does it mean if a guy ask you to come and eat with his family if you come into town for the weekend?

we are just friends "now" haha but this is the 2nd time he has asked me to come and do something with his family. The first time his family couldn't make it. And yes there could be more to this friendship. I was in town for the weekend and I asked him to do something with me but instead he insisted that I come over and have dinner with his family.
