Why does my dog hate me, but not anyone from my family?

OK, I have a real problem at home with my dog. He's about two, I think. He came home with dad one day and ever since, he's been quite an active dog. My brother and him play a lot and socialize and I've never been especially.. keen.. on him since our old dog died.

He has come to be very agressive around me, even though I've never hurt him or done anything to deserve that and I just wonder why. He's on the chain now because he barks, jumps and snarls (is that the espression?) at me.

Today I went to the garden and thought everyone would be fine like earlier that day, but he gave me quite a fright. My dad had to hold the chain (it's quite a long one) while I was going back, he was completely MAD, I thought he was going to break free. I'm just wondering why and if anyone's had any similar experiences. He gets especially agressive when I am passing by when there's food there. I don't want him to be chained up, but I'm just not secure in my house. Why? He's fine with everyone else. We
EDIT: Well, all the animals we've had actually adored me. We had two cats and a dog that are now sadly gone. So I don't think it's about character. And he's not always like that, it's like.. outbursts.
I have been friendly to him and we've played, I gave him food etc. He actually liked lying next to my leg when I was studying in the kitchen. It started happening a couple months ago.

When your dad brought him home, you did not like him. You said it yourself. He picked up on that, and learned not to trust you. He wasn't corrected properly when he first acted aggressively towards you, so the behavoir has escalated. The more scared you are of him, the more he will do it. Have you tried hiring a trainer? Maybe you should contact the dog whisperer!

You don't say what kind of dog it is or whether it is neutered. Dogs have a very keen sixth sense when it comes to people. You may not have hurt him, but you may have inadvertently caused his attitude towards you, especially since you say you have never been "keen on him". My only suggestion would be to work with a professional trainer in your area to solve this problem. It is not any kind of life for a pet dog to be chained outside. If a professional trainer is not an option, please consider re-homing your dog to someone who would consider him a household pet. Good luck.
